About

21 amazing years with my best friend.
Still my best friend after more than twenty years of marriage.

Aloha!

Thanks for taking the time to stop by. I’m looking forward to getting to know you and hope that you’ll find some hope and encouragement here that will breathe life into your spirit and spur you on to the great things that God created just for you. As Ephesians 2:10 reminds us,

For we are God’s handiwork, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do.

Regardless of where you are on your life journey, I hope you find this little blog to be a place where you can be accepted just as you are right now and experience unconditional love from a God who cares deeply about you.

My prayer for you as you read some of my thoughts and stories is that you would continue to be inspired to know God in a greater way – that you would experience the incredible love that He has towards you, as His precious child, and be filled with hope knowing that God can transform your life.

Therefore, as God’s chosen people, holy and dearly loved, clothe yourselves with compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness and patience. Colossians 3:12

Here’s a peek into my life…

Born and raised in Washington, I left the rainy Pacific Northwest in 1985, in search of sunnier Southern California skies to enroll at the University of Southern California where I majored in Broadcast Journalism and International Relations.

In 1993, I moved from Los Angeles to Honolulu, Hawaii to work for three months as a campus missionary at the University of Hawaii. The college ministry team was led by a super cute Japanese-Costa Rican man who was assisting in a church plant. Before leaving for Hawaii, my pastor gave me very clear instructions: “We are sending you there to work for Gregg Brenes, not to fall in love with him.”

We were married 8 months later.

Since then, we’ve moved over fourteen times, had five children, lived in four different states and five cities – planting churches, starting campus ministries and pastoring churches.

Hawaii always held a special place in our heart and, in 2008, we had the incredible opportunity to return to Honolulu and pastor at Grace Honolulu – a church filled with the some of the most Jesus-hearted people who continually challenge me to grow and become the woman God created me to be.

Here are my favorite people in the world – my incredible kids who are growing up waaaaayyyy too fast.

What you can expect to find on my blog…

Faith: I’m passionate about Jesus and most of my writing will include a devotional thought, scripture or an encouragement for you to consider from the Bible. My relationship with Jesus is the most important thing in my life, so I talk about it a lot.

Family: Stories about my family and parenting. While I admit that I’m biased, I think my family is amazing. They are incredible people who challenge me every day to be a better person, Christ follower, wife and mom. I wouldn’t trade them for anything.

Food: I’m always eager to try new recipes and when I find a good one that satisfies the WHOLE family, it’s too good to keep to myself.

Fun in Hawaii: There is so much to experience living in Hawaii. I enjoy sharing our favorite spots with you in case you’re planning a visit. With five kids & living on a budget, our favorite spots are always family friendly and affordable.

Relax, make yourself at home. Kick off your slippahs (that’s “flip-flops” for you mainlanders) and enjoy.

Mahalo!

  1. I’m going to come back and savor your site more when I have more time! Much of my hubby’s family is on Oahu. My brother-in-law, Peter Selvey, is working diligently on a new ministry on Maui that has a training facility. It’s called “Made in Hope”. I’m so excited to connect with you on some level, friend! Aloha! ❤

  2. What a special and beautiful story. We are neighbors at Suzanne’s today and then I arrive and find you and your family, your fine post and Hawaii. My youngest sister lives on Kauai…Hanalei and now Princeville since she was 19. She is now 63. We were Navy kids, born in Southern CA…San Diego for two of us and the Kauai sis in Norco. She went to Kauai with a bunch of high school friends and never looked back. She married one of those high school friends and that was 37 years ago, I think. Anyway, glad I found you. May your Christmas be filled with the joy of the Lord.
    Caring through Christ, ~ linda
